10 Point checklist to consider when hiring a General Contractor


1. REFERENCES : Check recent jobs completed. Ask how well J&J Performed, Were they on time and on budget? You may find out some clients hate to see us leave.

2. THE TEAM : Check the team assigned to your home. J&J are General Contractors that employ their own carpenters and project managers. You may be spending up to a year working on a large project, so its nice to know you will see the same smiling faces everyday.

3. EXPERIENCE : Check to see if the contractor has the ability to handle your project. J&J has many years of experience in large renovations as well as new homes, we have great knowledge of construction techniques and local building codes and we look forward to a challenge.

4. COMMUNICATION: This is one of the most important things to have. You should feel comfortable talking with your contractor before, during and after your project. J&J is always available to discuss your project and are radio dispatched so we are in constant contact with each other throughout the day.

5. LICENSES: Check to see if you are hiring a licensed contractor. J&J is licensed with the state of Connecticut to renovate and build new homes. J&J also belongs to Fairfield County Builders Association and are constantly researching new construction methods.

6. SUBCONTRACTORS : Check with your General Contractor and ask about the subs that will be working on your home. J&J has developed a great team of subs and will provide you with the bestsuited contractor for your project.

7. SAVINGS : Check to see if you will benefit in material savings. J&J has accounts at lumberyards, mill shops, masonry yards, plumbing supply, electrical wholesalers and hardware vendors. J&J will be happy to extend all discounts to you.

8. ESTIMATES AND SCHEDULING : Beware of the Low Bid; J&J takes the time to itemize each task of your project. The estimate will provide you with accurate costs that are reviewed to your complete satisfaction. If there is an increase in cost a change order will be written so there are no surprises. J&J will also provide a job schedule so you can plan for your move in date.

9. DETAILS : J&J will work closely with client and architect to make everything come together the way it was desired. We recommend weekly or biweekly site meetings during construction. J&J will also be happy to work with interior & landscape designers to put the finishing touches on your project.

10. COMPLETION : This is what J&J aims for from day 1 on the job. Everyday is set and conquered. We promise to work hard and work smart for you every day on site.
